History

History

Durbin is a specialist medical supply company that sources and distributes pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and consumable supplies to healthcare professionals in over 180 countries worldwide. We have offices in both the UK and USA.

Established over 50 years ago in Harrow, West London, the company has set up its operation to act a one-stop-shop able to deal with healthcare supply needs from local project level to national scale tenders, supplying over 20,000 branded / generic pharmaceuticals and medical and consumable products.

The company’s main divisions encompass everything from International Sales through Sales to NGO’s and Charities, Clinical Trials Supply, Managed Access Programs, Imported (Unlicensed Medicines), Sexual Health Supplies, and the storage and distribution of medical products and devices for third parties. In 2014, Durbin acquired US based medical supplier Pharmaceutical Trade Services Inc. (PTSI), now called Durbin USA.

Durbin’s 165 strong team possess a wide range of in-house skills and includes pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, medical engineers, commercial executives, administrators, warehouse, logistics staff and a globally based sales force. Customers include major pharmaceutical companies, biotech companies, trusts, hospitals, retail chemists and GPs as well as multilateral organisations, NGOs, charities, government agencies, pharmaceutical wholesalers and traders

In 2017 Durbin began the process of combining its UK warehouses and offices in a move to new, larger premises located close to Heathrow Airport. This will see pallet capacity increase by three times and the company’s new warehouse also boasts a secure loading area, fast-action loading bay doors and a brand new, state-of-the-art temperature control system. Separate rooms include a freezer, a cold room for items requiring storage between 2-8°C, and a ‘controlled warm’ room for items requiring storage between 15-25°C, each with a capacity of 32 pallets.

The company has preferential rates with all the major freight forwarding companies and can ship most items at a moments notice, truly reflecting the company ethos of ‘saving lives by saving time’.

Durbin has won many awards including ‘Export Excellence in the Americas’ category at the UK Export Excellence Awards 2016, and ‘Exporter/International Business of the Year’ at the West London Business Awards 2017. Durbin were also identified as one of London Stock Exchange Group’s 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain in 2017, and recently ranked No. 68 in the 18th Sunday Times BDO Profit Track 100 list for 2017.

Durbin becomes distributor for ICI to Africa
1995
Clinical Trials Supply division launched
1999
Leslie Morgan buys Durbin and becomes Managing Director
2000
Durbin is regional finalist at the Export Awards for Smaller Businesses
2002
Imports (Unlicensed Medicines) department opens and begins to supply hospitals and pharmacies across the UK. The trading division of the charity ECHO Health Services International is purchased to form the Sales to NGO’s and Charities department.
2004
Sexual Health Supplies division is launched. Durbin begins to distribute medicines and medical products on an exclusive basis for third parties.
2005
Early Access Programmes division is launched
2008
Winner of Small/Medium Enterprise of the year Award at the Business Excellence Awards. Runner up in three other categories - International Trade and Exporter of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year and Business of the Year.
2009
Second warehouse and fourth office opens. Durbin wins Best UK Family-owned Business, London and Greater London region at the annual Coutts Bank Awards.
2012
Winner of International Business of the Year at the Business Excellence Awards, and runner up in the Large Business of the Year category.
2013
Durbin celebrates 50 years in business. Leslie Morgan is awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list for services to the Pharmaceutical Industry and to Charity. Leslie is also elected a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. Durbin wins Exporter/International Business of the Year award at the West London Business Awards.
2014
Leslie is elected as a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London. Durbin is named National Champion at the European Business Awards. Durbin acquires US based medical supplier Pharmaceutical Trade Services Inc. (PTSI) as part of it's global expansion.
2015
Durbin signs a 5 year global deal with MPOWERD Inc to distribute solar lights for humanitarian aid.
2016
Winner of Most Outstanding Medical Supply Firm - UK at Corporate LiveWire Innovation & Excellence Awards. Also winner of Export Excellence in Americas category at the UK Export Excellence Awards. Durbin ranked No.142 in the Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 list. Durbin announces major expansion plans for 2017 with new Global HQ in the UK and new America's HQ in the US.
2017
Winner of Exporter/International Business of the year at the West London Business Awards 2017. Also ranked No.68 in the 18th Sunday Times BDO Profit Track 100 list. Durbin moves to bigger premises in Hayes, close to London’s Heathrow Airport.
