Statement regarding competitor's alleged unethical behaviour
24 June 2013
Durbin PLC is an ethical wholesaler owned by UK Pharmacists.
Durbin is a UK business operating globally in several specialist pharmaceutical distribution areas. One of these business areas is the provision of unlicensed medications (sometimes called Specials) for UK Physicians and Pharmacists to treat in-need patients. Durbin works with many NHS Hospitals, Pharmacies & Doctors.
Durbin welcomes the attention being paid by the Department of Health and NHS to any underhand practices being performed by others in this market and hopes that added transparency can be brought to this area via a new code of conduct.
Leslie Morgan OBE, B.Pharm. (Hons). MRPharmS, CEO of Durbin PLC: “Our policies and practices stem from Durbin’s ethical approach to business and we have not and will not engage in any of these alleged activities. We deplore any underhand activities that may be occurring.
I welcome the investigation that the Secretary of State for Health, the Rt. Hon. Jeremy Hunt MP, has called for. I believe the NHS and providers of ’Specials’ should work together to form a new code of conduct to ensure that all suppliers are working to the same ethical standards.”
Durbin would like to take this opportunity to re-state its own policies:
- Durbin works in partnership with the NHS to source vitally needed medications and provides them at transparent prices to the NHS
- Durbin does not offer travel or non educational ‘training’ sessions to the NHS or private Healthcare Professional to induce them to place orders
- Durbin does not issue false or inflated invoices and does not utilise underhand discounts or rebates
- Durbin does not run any incentive schemes to reward individuals within the NHS
